Into the Urban Wild

The cool thing about Normafa is that it's remote and close at the same time: you're always about two BKV vehicles away from it, yet you can roam free in nature for hours once you're there. When the weather gets milder, as it did this weekend, there's a bit of an assault in the area, but it will never get as crowded as either Margitsziget or Városliget. There's no risk of getting lost in the beech forest either, as all trails are carefully marked and you will eventually meet some rétes munching fellow humanoids no matter how far you venture into the "wilderness".

Butterflies in Daylight

So I could not resist going back in the morning to check the butterflies again and here's the harvest.

My Terézváros

I'd wanted to live in Terézváros ever since I first laid my eyes on a map of Budapest, mostly on account of Művész cinema being here, which at the time seemed to me like the height of all arthouse things I did not get to see in my hometown. I now know it's not always the case, but I still love "my" Terézváros to shreds, and even more so on sunny weekend mornings, when it's just coming to life at a leisurely pace.

Butterfly City

Found these paper butterflies randomly on my walk home- that is the absolutely best kind of walk for me, when I discover something worth shooting that hasn't been there before. I'm sure I'd find an answer on Google to the question of who put them there and why, but I'd rather keep their mystery for a while.

Equinox Panorama

Spring equinox sunset hunting went well again. Might try a sunrise next year for a change.

Happy Spring

It’s apparently one of those days again- the International Day of Happiness. Because happiness needs a day as opposed to the other 364 when you’re plain grumpy and all. Nevertheless, the day of the spring equinox is always a good day to be happy, so here’s a tree in full blom in Nyugati square to celebrate that.

A Budapest Classic. Szeráj.

Restaurants and food fads come and go, but Szeráj continues to be the staple of affordable but tasty Turkish food. It pretty much saved my life during my first year at uni, when I fatefully discovered it around the time when I was about to succumb to a canteen bolognese only diet (canteen bolongnese, mind you is NOT bolognese, but a vile concoction containing a lot of carrots and meat originating from yet unidentified life forms). Szeráj is open almost around the clock, puts all fast food restaurants to shame with the speed of service, has a totally lively atmosphere and a very mixed crowd of people and a dish for pretty much everyone.

Saint Patrick's Day Parade

It’s so lovely to be Irish, people all over the world march on the day of you national saint wearing silly hats and drinking rivers of Guinness and Jameson. Yesterday’s parade in Budapest was particulary exciting, as the wind decided on several occasions it was time to turn the mode to mild hurricane, which sent balloons, flags and miniature dogs flying across Szabadság square.
